ALEXANDRA GIULIANOTTI SLOAN - Surgical Intern - Taken
Alexandra Giulianotti Sloan was born on December 25th 1989 in Manhattan, New York to Natasha Giulianotti . Natasha Giulianotti was one of the top two female General Surgeons in the US. Marriage and family was never something that she wanted. She was focused, talented and extraordinary in the O.R. She was a force to be reckoned with. She always thought that her life would be about her career and nothing could get in the way. Having known Mark Sloan for a few months and hearing some of the rumors about his sexual skills Natasha decided to have a one night stand with the young doctor. That one night stand led to a few more encounters but after a few weeks Natasha ended the short sexual relationship with the younger Doctor. Not long after she cut ties with Mark she found out that she was pregnant having not been with anyone else she knew that Mark Sloan was the father of her child. It did not take her long to decide to keep the child a secret from the young doctor. Natasha did not want to burden him with the responsibility of raising a child during his intern year and if he ended up leaving the child at a young age she did not want it to be effected by his choice.
Natasha always tried to be the best mother she could, she truly loved her daughter and after being raised by surgeons who procreated verses parents she wanted Alexandra to have something better than that. She felt the best way to do that was to keep the identity of Alexandra’s father a secret from Alexandra. So after Calling her old friend Catherine Avery and transferring to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA Natasha took her new born baby and moved back to her house in Boston. Natasha could not help that the only thing she knew how to be was a surgeon and sadly against her wishes Alexandra ended up being another child of a surgeon who procreated.
Alexandra never really saw the reasons why her mother felt like she failed as a parent, truly Alexandra loved her more than anything in the world. Sure she did not have the same life as other children her age but Alexandra did not care. As a child It was never an issue for her, she thought it was cool that she got to spent 99% of her time in a huge hospital watching surgeons save lives everyday. Alexandra knew that when she grew up she would become a surgeon it was in her blood. Throughout her whole life Natasha and Catherine always told her “You must be extraordinary and nothing less!” Those words made Alexandra extremely scared of failing but at the same time gave her the motive to be the best at everything. Through out school, college and med school those words remained in the back of Alexandra’s mind causing her to be focused and driven. Between Natasha Giulianotti and Catherine Avery; Alexandra could not have had two better surgeons or women in her life. Even though the two women were extremely pushy and even though they found great joy meddling in her life Alexandra always held a special place in her heart for both of them.
As Alexandra grew older she tried to stray from her Mother’s Legendary shadow but contrary her best attempts she realized that no matter where she went she could not escape the influence of the famous Dr. Natasha Giulianotti. After she finished Med school in New York Alexandra finally gave up and moved back to Boston to join the Brigham and Women’s Hospital’s surgical residency program jus as her mother did. When it came to the topic of Alexandra’s father all she knew was that he was a surgeon and his last name was Sloan. Alexandra always wondered who her father was and what it would be like if she could ever have him in her life but every time Alexandra would try to ask her mother about him she would end up changing the subject before reviling too much. When the 4th of July came Natasha threw a huge party during which Alexandra had over heard Her and Catherine discussing Mark Sloan. After the party was over she confronted her mother and told her that she was going to find him with or without her help. Days later Natasha told Alexandra everything she knew about Mark Sloan. It may have not been much but it was enough for Alexandra to decide to transfer to GSMH. The day after she arrived in Seattle she drove to the hospital to meet Dr. Mark Sloan but instead found out that he had died in a plane crash. Even though Alexandra was not able to meet her father she decided to stay in Seattle for a while in hopes of studding under the brilliant doctors at GSMH and getting to know her baby sister Sofia.
